Stubborn Student

mon 9 aug 2021 12:00 hrs

At the age of 20, for the first and definitely not the last time, Beethoven would fall in love with a piano student: Eleonore von Breuning(as portrayed). She answers his love, but just as things get serious, Beethoven gets cold feet and pushes her away, which he will later regret. A friendship is what remains, luckily. He writes a couple of compositions for Eleonore for a now long forgotten instrument: the orphica(see picture below). Around that same time he writes a cantata as well.

1.Ludwig van Beethoven: Two pieces for piano WoO 51

Jenö Jandó, piano

2.Ludwig van Beethoven: Rondo in G major. for violin and piano WoO 41

James Ehnes, violin

Andrew Armstrong, piano

3.Ludwig van Beethoven: 13 variations on ‘Es war einmal ein alter Mann’ from Dittersdorfs opera Das rothe Käppchen. WoO 66

John Ogdon, piano

4.Ludwig van Beethoven: Pianotrio no. 10 in E-flat major. op. 44

Beaux Arts Trio

5.Ludwig van Beethoven: parts 1 and 2 from Kantate auf die Erhebung Leopold II zur Kaiserwürde WoO 88

conducted by Leif Segerstam
