On ‘An Early Evening Stroll’, the final episode of a trilogy on Debussy’s revolutionary piano preludes. We start with a piece of Wagner parody in ‘Golliwogg’s Cakewalk. Debussy’s way of kicking fervent Wagnerians in the shin. Next, we continue our journey through his colourful prelude landscape. We will be listening to fairies dancing with elegance, we go out on the moors, get a portrait of a clown, visit a deserted city at night, meet a treacherously beautiful water nymph, meet Samuel Pickwick from Dickens’ novel ‘The Pickwick Papers’, move to Egypt for a short while, listen to a watery etude and finish with fireworks.
