In this episode we will be listening to the first two cantatas of the cycle ‘Betrachtungen über die Hauptumstände des großen Versöhnungsleidens unseres Erlösers’ by Christoph Graupner.
In 1741 Christoph Graupner composed a cycle of ten cantatas for the Passiontide. The first of these sounded on Sunday Estomihi, also known as Sunday Quinquagesima: the 50th day before Easter and the Sunday before Ash Wednesday. The last one was performed on Good Friday.
The lyrics were written by Graupner’s brother-in-law Johann Conrad Lichtenberg.
In this programme we will be listening to the first two cantatas of this cycle.
Finally, we feature three more songs for Passiontide by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach.
