Little Big Bands – from septet to tentet
The Music of Johnny Carisi
John E Carisi born Feb. 23, 1922
Trumpeter, arranger and composer, a.o. of the minor blues Israel that was on Birth Of The Cool by Miles Davis in 1949/1950.
In 2013, Fresh Sound Records released The Music of Johnny Carisi, which includes recordings from 1954 and 1956 of octet, nonet and tentet line-ups on which he can also be heard as a trumpet player, mostly with his own compositions.
Great Little Big Band music from the Cool period of a musician who was born 100 years ago this year (just like Charles Mingus and Toots Thielemans)!

Extraordinary musician with many faces, both musically and humanly.
He was rooted in the blues and bebop, but he also moved in a much freer direction early on!!!
Bassist, but also pianist (listen to Piano Jazz today at 18.00!!!) and a very good composer; a number of Mingus pieces are indispensable in the jazz repertoire.
In ‘Little Big Band’ septet, octet and nonet recordings.
