Piet Jozef Swerts.
Recognisable, yet elusive. It’s not quite minimal music, but then what is it? The music of Belgian composer Piet Jozef Swerts is difficult to grasp. He wrote his earliest piano compositions in the 1970s. This broadcast is a sequel to the previous ‘Contemporary Music’ on which we heard Swerts’ project for 24 sonatas: 24 straight strung piano sonatas. Performed on a special grand piano by piano builder Chris Maene, a fellow Belgian.
