The 28 year old saxophonist, composer and bandleader Kika Sprangers is rising fast. On stage she leads various formations, from Quintet to Large Ensemble. Her composing work extends to symphonic proportions – witness her music for the string ensemble Pynarello. In 2021 she received the Rogier van Otterloo Award. During the recent lockdown Sprangers was Artist in Residence at TivoliVredenburg, which resulted in her fourth cd Mind’s Eye and a concert film of the same name, to be seen on YouTube.

On 28th November 2021 the group Alto for Two performed in TivoliVredenburg. All five musicians contributed compositions. The pieces are nicely varied qua character, tempo, structure and are full of surprises.  Both the ensemble and the solo work are of high quality.
