An Early Evening Stroll

mon 20 feb 2023 11:00 hrs
Composer: Emilie Mayer

Emilie Mayer – An unjustly forgotten 19th-century North German composer – 1.

This episode of “An Early Evening Stroll” is dedicated to the composer Emilie Mayer (1812-1883). She started composing relatively late, but was extremely productive and successful afterwards. She wrote eight symphonies, a lot of chamber music, and songs. And what was particularly remarkable: she managed to convince orchestras to perform her music. During her lifetime, she was thus very successful, but after her death, she quickly fell into oblivion. In this program, you will hear some of her chamber music works and an orchestral overture.
