Program with selection of songs by Sheikh Imam (1918-1995), The Egyptian blind singer- songwriter known for the duo he formed with the poet Ahmed Fouad Negm and their protest songs that were banned in Egypt. Musically Sheikh Imam belongs to a long tradition of traditional composers in Egypt who are well rooted in Egyptian Quran recitation ,religious singing and Arabic maqam traditions.
Sheikh Imam and his companions Ahmed Fouad Negm and Mohamed Ali (percussion). The song was written in prison early 1970s ,performed live here in concert in France in 1980s.
