World of Jazz, our new jazz and world music channel, will start on April 1 this year. Here you will be able to hear jazz and world music in all its diversity, 24 hours a day. The new channel will focus on the latest developments in both genres and also offers a platform for young musicians by broadcasting concert recordings from all over the Netherlands. World of Jazz will also work closely with the Dutch jazz and world music sector: musicians, venues, festivals and conservatories.
The Netherlands has a thriving jazz and world music scene that deserves to be heard on the radio. In recent years, the Concertzender was the only radio station that gave serious attention to these genres. We are now going to further expand our offering by adding a new channel dedicated to this music.
Sponsors and crowdfunding
To make this possible, we are asking for the financial help from all jazz and world music lovers. You can do this by becoming a Friend of the Concertzender . A crowdfunding campaign will also start soon on voordekunst.nl. We are also talking to the Dutch broadcasting organisation NPO about cooperation and are also hoping for support from politicians in The Hague. The Concertzender’s program makers are all unpaid professionals and are all passionate connoisseurs and specialists in their chosen genres. The additional budget is necessary for the technical implementation, new music programming and to ensure continuity. Money is also necessary if we are to achieve our ambition of giving World of Jazz a place on DAB+.
Programming
During the day, World of Jazz programming provides a mix of non-stop jazz and world music: from New Orleans to the present, from Tango to Mambo, from smooth to impro, from African jazz to Latin.
In the afternoon we will delve into the archives: the partnerships between the Concertzender and the Dutch Jazz Archives, North Sea, broadcasters such as VPRO, NTR and Wereldomroep will ensure that these rich archives can be fully exploited.
In addition, there is room for in-depth features and coverage of the latest events with interviews, recent concert recordings, new releases, news about festivals and all the other developments in the world of jazz and world music. The focus is on jazz and world music from the Netherlands, young talent, contemporary movements within jazz and world music, concert recordings from all the Dutch venues. And there will also be live music from the studio, interspersed with interviews.
Concertzender
The World of Jazz channel is the second channel operated by the Concertzender. The original channel remains the place where classical, jazz and world music have a stage and music can be heard that you do not hear anywhere else. The Concertzender already broadcasts a number of jazz programs that other broadcasters had no room for, such as Co Live!, the programme by Co de Kloet.

I ofthen listen to jazz on Fip (a French channel) and it would be nice if a comparable channel were available in the Netherlands.
