Jean Sibelius’ Juvinelia

Today’s episode of Radio Romantica will be filled with Jean Sibelius’ chamber music. You will hear pieces that weren’t released until many years after the composer passed away. 25 years after Sibelius’ death, in 1982, his family granted permission for the public release of primarily his early works. The music consists of pieces that the young composer performed in the intimate setting of his home, often with his brother and other family members. In addition to music for piano and harmonium, you will hear a piano quartet, various standalone pieces, and an opera about Princess Ljunga Wirginia, of which unfortunately only the instrumental parts have been recovered.
