Tussen 1998 en 2006 creëerde de Amerikaanse formatie Town and Country een uniek oeuvre binnen de postrock. Een legendarische naam die vrijwel niemand meer kent. Met een misleidende, generieke bandnaam als Town and Country breek je ook niet veel potten. Toch heeft het Amerikaanse kwartet een reeks baanbrekende releases uitgebracht op met name het specialistenlabel Thrill Jockey. Invloeden uit de Amerikaanse minimal music, folk, wereldmuziek en twintigste-eeuwse avant-garde stroomden in hun vaak lange instrumentals samen. Traag opbouwende, bezwerende nummers die met hun onversneden, akoestische klank en minimale opzet hun tijd ver vooruit waren. De roots van de band Town and Country liggen in Chicago. Daar formeerde Ben Vida (cornet, gitaar, harmonium,) Liz Payne (altviool, gitaar, percussie), Jim Dorling (basklarinet, harmonium) en Josh Abrams (contrabas, slagwerk, celesta) de eigenzinnige formatie Town and Country. In deze Thema uitzending een kleine ode aan deze bijna vergeten Amerikaanse band.
