#529. The WOW (in dub).
A radio-art-documentary featuring Phil Harrison. About Bristol sound system art punk in 1976/77. Disturbed by the sounds of the Wow! signal. A strong radio signal detected on August 15, 1977. Discovered by astronomer Jerry R. Ehman while taking a relisten to the recorded data. The computer printout showed “6EQUJ5” and Ehman wrote the comment “Wow!” beside it. Framed by the 1976 movements of Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles. Seventies Mark Stewart encounters, the Pop Group, the Bristol scene, the everyday struggle in city life with psychedelic drug abuse. The social seventies landscape with the Cold War, rioting, sexism, Rock against Racism, hooliganism, Eric Clapton, the St. Pauls sound clashes and the appearance of poet Linton Kwesi Johnson. Touring with The Cortinas, The Damned and finding yourself in crazy UK punk circumstances.
And ……… how do you want to construct your own punk-dub microphone?
A Radio WORM/Dr. Klangendum/Concertzender/Soundart production.
