Slipped Through the Net

The American bass player Todd Phillips started out as a mandolin player in the band of blue grass veteran David Grisman, and later switched to bass. There were jazz influences from the start, like you can hear on the album Released, his debut as a band leader. On the later album Timeframe, he leaves behind bluegrass a bit, but a mandolin still pops up now and then.
