An hour of super-English music in Radio Romantica. Edward Elgar passes by in all his capacities. The grand concert overture In the South exuberantly describes his experiences and impressions on holiday in Italy, in Alassio (Liguria). The Sea Pictures is an exquisite cycle of five songs for mezzo-soprano and orchestra, in which Elgar completely indulges in musically describing the sea in all her appearances and emotions. With two shorter orchestral works, we meet the composer in a somewhat lighter mood, which, incidentally, he managed to put in notes superbly: Dream Children and Chanson de matin.
