Max Richter: Calming neoclassicalism meets intriguing postminimalism.

sun 22 dec 2024

Theme: December 25, 20:00-22:00 CET

The British-German composer Max Richter writes music that is often too good to be true. He embraces tonality and sound beauty without inhibitions. He is currently considered one of the most popular contemporary composers. At the end of November he was in a sold-out CarrĂ© in Amsterdam. In his music you can hear influences from composers such as Michael Nyman, Ennio Morricone and Philip Glass. He sees his serene music as a way of healing a chaotic and troubled world. In this Theme broadcast you can listen to some well-known and some lesser-known works by Max Richter. For example, some compositions from his early days with the British minimal ensemble Piano Circus are included. His classic Recomposed: Vivaldi’s Four Seasons is performed in a new, spectacular version by violinist Daniel Rowland and the Stift Festival Orchestra.
