Folk magazine about the present and the past, from freak folk to minstrels.
Folk it mediterranee explores the musical richness of the Mediterranean. This episode: music from Crete with lyre harpist player and composer Stelios Petrakis.
Today, we put composer Stelios Petrakis in the spotlight. He is one of the most important contemporary performers of traditional music in Crete, as well as a lyre harpist and composer. He is part of the new generation of Cretans that keep the traditional Cretan music alive and even breathe new life into it. He also collaborates with non-Greek musicians with different cultural backgrounds, like the Iranian zarb (or tombak) player Bijan Chemirani and hurdy-gurdy player Efrén Lopéz from Spain.
Stelios describes his musical development and adventures extensively on his website http://www.steliospetrakis.com
