Traditional-Classical music from Pakistan & India, with: Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan & Asha Bhosle.

1 – Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

The Pakistani singer is considered the greatest qawwali singer of his generation (qawwali means Sufi-Islamic devotional song). After the death of his father (also a qawwali), he took over the leadership of his music ensemble. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (died in 1997) belonged to Sufism. This is an Islamic movement that focuses on the mystical elements of Islam. With the help of dance, rhythmic clapping and hypnotic repetition of holy names, one enters a trance and ecstasy. The message that Nusrat conveyed with his magical and passionate voice proved to be universally successful: the love of God and the connectedness of humanity.

If there is one singer who is mentioned in the same breath as Bollywood, it is Asha Bhosle. Asha was the middle of six children in an above-average musical family. Asha acted and sang from the age of ten. Initially, success came with difficulty, the singer accepted every job, but her reputation grew due to her versatility. From 1966 onwards, she worked with the versatile composer/producer Rahul Dev Burman, whom she would later marry. According to various sources, Asha Bhosle is the artist who recorded the most songs. Estimates range from 12,000 to a staggering 20,000 songs.
