In today’s episode of Mambo we will focus on jazz Latino music from the 1950s and 1960s.
The term Latino jazz is often mentioned in this programme. Cubans however prefer to call this genre jazz Latino. It has been played for a long time and not only by Latino’s.
One of the greatest in the jazz Latino genre is Machito (pictured). His big band was under the musical direction of Mario Bauzá, who is considered the grandfather of this genre.
This hour, you will hear various jazz Latino classics, including classics from the Cal Tjader Quintet, music group Candido and Sonny Stitt.
