Echos of the night: Weinberg & Dutilleux
We are focusing on the night in this episode of Harmonious, with music by Mieczysław Weinberg (1919-1996) (picture) and Henri Dutilleux (1916-2013). Weinberg’s Concerto for cello in C minor (1948) evokes darkness with melancholic and dynamic contrasts. Dutilleux’ Ainsi la nuit (1976) expresses the night in seven organically interwoven movements full of mysterious timbres. To conclude, the soundtrack from La fille du diable (1946), an early composition in which delicate orchestrations and subtle harmonies enhance the story’s darker intrigues.
