Composer: Heitor Villa-Lobos

1925 – A productive year for Heitor Villa-Lobos.

Today, another episode featuring music composed exactly 100 years ago. This time, the works are all from the same composer: Brazilian Heitor Villa-Lobos. In 1925, Villa-Lobos just came back from a 2 year stay in Paris. While there, he had met composers such as Edgard Varèse and Aaron Copland, as well as Pablo Picasso and conductor Leopold Stokowski. Villa-Lobos used elements from classical Western tradition in his music, but also from Brazilian folk music.
