Carl Nielsen’s music
Carl Nielsen’s chamber music isn’t performed often enough, though this can’t be said for his Wind Quintet, which is featured on programmes of all ensembles – professional and amateur – with no exceptions. This is no surprise, as it is a wonderful and also challenging piece, that brings together all aspects of playing music with five wind instruments, each one with its unique nature, and connects them in a beautiful way.
The string quartets from Nielsen are less popular, but perhaps this episode might turn it around. as there is plenty of challenge and musical inspiration for strings in the pleasant scores of this Danish giant.
