Part 2 from the St Luke Passion from Georg Philipp Telemann from 1744, and an Easter cantata from his contemporary, Christoph Graupner.
Telemann produced a new passion each year as musical director in Hamburg, sometimes even more than one. He wrote in total over fourty Passions, and out of this incredible amount, about twenty Passions were passed on intact and complete.
The version that is based on the gospel of Luke stands out, because of its great power of emotional expression. Telemann was a master at combining profoundness with accessibility for a wider audience. In this part Jesus sings a personal aria.
