An hour of prime chamber music: The unsurpassed first piano trio from Mendelssohn, played by The Florestan Trio, and the Wind Nonet from Sir Hubert Parry.
This nonet features a unique combination of instruments, with the flute added to the standard set of wind octet instruments (in this case including an English Horn), performed by the ensemble Capricorn. Composer Parry, the quintessential Victorian Englishman, was inspired by Mendelssohn’s brilliant music,and so, as an encore, we return to musical prodigy Felix, listening to a part from one of his violin sonatas, performed skilfully by Antje Weithaas and Silke Avenhaus.
