No Blues live in the Concertzender Studio on the 19th floor of the Conclusion Building.
No Blues requires little introduction.
In 2004, three musicians were brought together as an experiment during a three-day music session that was to lead to a united concert. They were blues guitar player Ad van Meurs, double-bass player Anne-Maarten van Heuvelen and u’d player Haytham Safia (u’d = Arabic lute). They experimented with set western blues outlines and Arabic scales, which ended up coming together quite seamlessly.
=Arabicana=
What once began as a casual experiment developed into an entirely new style of music. They called it ´Arabicana´, to indicate their new unique mix of Americana (folk, blues, country) and Arab music. Singer Ankie Keultjes plays an important part, who also plays the synthesizer and works on the technical side of things. In 2007, African percussionist Osama Maleegi joined the group.
In the meantime, they have been performing on stages in the Netherlands, France, Greece, Mexico and Germany and can be heard on the radio a lot in Arab countries.
=Kind of No Blues=
After having produced 4 albums, they surprisingly released the double album Kind of No Blues last year, with unique live recordings but also with original studio material, with which they break new ground.
Domestic as well as foreign musicians have contributed as guests to this. Wind instrument players, string players and poets all give the familiar Arabicana sound of No Blues a broader musical horizon.
