A special regarding the Liszt Competition 2020: Beethoven by Liszt.

Liszt was a huge fan of Beethoven and greatly inspired by him. Not surprisingly then that Liszt made piano arrangements of all his symphonies. In 1845 – 75 years after Beethoven was born – Liszt also initiated a three-day festival in Beethoven’s birth place Bonn. On this occassion, he wrote his Beethoven Cantata.

  1. Ludwig van Beethoven/Franz Liszt – Two parts from: Symphony No. 5 (first version)
    Leslie Howard, piano
  2. Ludwig van Beethoven/Franz Liszt – Two songs from: Sechs Goethe-Lieder
    Leslie Howard, piano
  3. Franz Liszt – Cantata for the Inauguration of the Beethoven Monument in 1845
    Cappella Coloniensis des WDR
    Kölner Kantorei
    Vocal solists
    Bruno Weil, conductor
