Ferdinand Hiller: Forgotten pivotal figure in 19th-century German musical life – Part 2

Like last week’s, Today’s Walk is dedicated to music by Ferdinand Hiller, an important figure in German musical life in his day. Still, today his excellent musical output is all but forgotten. Hiller wrote music in almost all genres: songs, choral works, chamber music and orchestral music.

Hiller had good contact with almost all the great composers of his time. He was also friends with some of them. His musical views were quite conservative, yet he got on well with someone like Richard Wagner personally.
