Broken in  the bud- Rikard Nordraak

Today on “De Wandeling” we pay attention to the young composer Rikard Nordraak who died prematurely. His parents had a career as a businessman in mind for him, but it soon became clear that his greatest talents were in the field of music. During his short life, he wrote about 40 compositions, mainly songs and pieces for male choir. He also wrote some piano works. He is best known as the composer of the Norwegian national anthem, which you will also hear in this broadcast. Nordraak died of tuberculosis in 1866, only 23 years old.
