Folk it! -Nordic Sounds
In the new Folk it! programme Nordic sounds, we take you along authentic, as well as contemporary roots music from the countries where the Northern Lights will make their appearance. In a previous episode we presented you with a selection of a broad range of musical diversity from the Faroe Islands. In this broadcast, we introduce two singer-songwriters: the singer-guitarist Stanley Samuelsen and the singer Lea Kampmann. Both were born in the Faroe Islands, but live in Denmark, from which they pursue their international careers. Samuelsen does that by setting old, but also contemporary texts of poets in the Faroe Islands to music ( where he occasionally provides the lyrics himself). His songs are accessible without being cliché. You might compare Samuelsen to colleagues such as Alan Taylor, or perhaps even Harvey Andrews and German musician Manfred Jaspers. Kampmann expresses herself with her own compositions through dark indipop folk, in which sound collages and beats play an important role.
An extended review of the albums can be found after the broadcast at www.newfolksounds.nl
