Old and New – Modern or Classic, monody – early polyphony.
In Antiqua versus Nova we focus on one specific musical change or a major transformation at a time in the history of Western European music. Episode 25. Kyrie – God have mercy.
This is a rerun of March 29, 2015.
The song "O! Quid jubes" is a poem by monk Godescalc in medieval latin. It is a song that praises God and starts with the words ‘ O, why you ask me to sing, exile as I am, my little flea, my little boy…’ and ‘…Because you really want me to sing, I will sing for the Godhead. For Him I will sing…’
With that this song by Godescalc can be viewed as an inspiration for this episode of Antiqua versus Nova, that will sound in the week before Easter and that will have the theme: Kyrie – God have mercy.
