Hein van de Geyn

Hein van de Geyn is a bassist (born in Schijndel in 1956) who combines the technique and elegance of his idol Scott LaFaro with the solid beat of Paul Chambers, making him an empathic accompanist. Later on, he becomes a producer, pedagogue, and leader of his own group, Baseline. He also leads the jazz department at the Rotterdam Conservatory for a number of years. Hein is perhaps more well-known internationally than he is in the Netherlands, having played with and accompanied numerous international luminaries such as Dee Dee Bridgewater, Lee Konitz, and Chet Baker. In 2010, he unexpectedly retired from being a jazz musician and emigrated with his family to South Africa.
