Marcel Weltak (1948) studied economics and philosophy in Groningen and Amsterdam. In Suriname, he worked for Stichting Wetenschappelijke Informatie S.W.I. (Foundation for Information and Development) and daily papers De West and De Ware Tijd. He worked as an editor for the Surinamese-Dutch monthly magazine ‘Adek’ and as a co-worker of the art department for ‘De Waarheid’ and the ‘Volkskrant’.
In 1990, Weltak published a book titled ‘Surinaamse muziek in Nederland en Suriname’ (Surinamese music in the Netherlands and Suriname). He published in several magazines such as ‘JazzNu’, ‘OOR’, ‘Vinyl’ and ‘Onze Wereld’, and contributed to OOR’s ‘Eerste Nederlandse Popencyclopedie (First Dutch Encyclopedia of Pop), the ‘Jazzjaarboek’ (Jazz Yearbook), and ‘De Beste Reisverhalen’ (The Best Travel Stories). He is also a co-writer of the book ’40 Jaar Surinaamse muziek in Nederland’ (40 Years of Surinamese music in the Netherlands).
