Concert by Huun Huur Tu, a dominant tone singing group from Mongolia.

Today, a concert recording of Huun Huur Tu, a dominant tone singing group from Tuva, an area between Siberia and Mongolia. These recordings were made at Rasa in Utrecht on 1 April 2011.
Dominant tone singing is a form of singing for which the group members use their larynx, lips and tongue in a specific way. A single singer can produce multiple tones, which makes you feel as though you are in a different world. These group members are experts in applying this technique and uses mainly Tuvan instruments like the igil, khomus, doshpuluur and dünggür.
The strength is as follows:

Sayan Bapa, doshpuluur, guitar, igil, dominant tone vocals.
Radik Tyulyush, vocals, igil.
Alexei Saryglar, traditional percussion, vocals, dominant tone vocals, igil.

To supplement this concert, a number of other songs are played, recorded during the Roaring Hooves 2004 Festival in Mongolia. This festival takes place annually in Ulan Bator and in different places in the Gobi desert. The recordings that we play here are from 2004. Though both Western and traditional music is played, we have selected only the traditional music from Mongolia.
