A concert by desert blues group Atri N’Assouf, recorded in Rasa, Utrecht on 24 November 2012.
‘Star of the Desert’ is what Atri N’Assouf means. The touareg group comes from the northern part of the Sahara. The most prominent element in the music of Atri N’Assouf is a recurring, almost hypnotising groove, joined by bass guitar, percussion, acoustic guitar and part-singing.
The group’s main performer is singer and guitar player Rissa Ag Wanagli. The focus is on the band leader’s acoustic guitar. As stated before, the songs are mainly built up around a single groove, which is also what it has in common with the blues: less is more. Furthermore you can hear Alain Plumeauzille, cajon. Ahmed Cisse, bass guitar. Mama Walet Amoumine vocals and Hama Bilalan, electric guitar.
