Eleven years after his death, singer Andrea Parodi (1966-2006) is still adored, both on his island of birth Sardinia as in the rest of Italy. He was blessed with a beautiful high voice, which always sounded clear and sincere. Parodi had his breakthrough in the late 1980s with Tazenda, a band that mixed Sardinian folk music with Italian pop and rock. After he had left the band in 1997 he studied folk music and made a name for himself with various solo albums and collaborative projects, for instance with the American jazz guitarist Al Di Meola.

Andrea Parodi died in 2006, only 51 years old.

In honour of his musical legacy, the Premio Andrea Parodi is held on Sardinia every year in October.

In two broadcasts of one hour, Bas Springer pays a tribute to this special singer who, more than anybody else, knew how to mix Sardinian folk music with other styles.

This is the first broadcast. The second one will be aired on Friday 29 December at 10 p.m. and will look back on the Premio Andrea Parodi 2017.
