Concerts from around the country, recorded by Concertzender (Classical & Early Music). In this Christmas period we broadcast two Christmas concerts which we recorded recently. In the concerts you can hear early Dutch Christmas music. They are ‘Een Renaissance Kerstmis’ by Trigon ensemble and ‘O Magnum Mysterium’ by Cappella Pratensis.
A) Trigon – ‘Een Renaissance Kerstmis’, Christmas songs from the Netherlands from the 15th up to early 17th century handwritings.
On Sunday 16 December the Trigon ensemble brought, after 400 years, Christmas songs of the Amsterdam beguines, from around 1600 AD, to us in the attractive medieval Huys Dever.
The music the Amsterdam beguines sang in the beginning of the seventeenth century connects, although later noted, seamlessly to the music of the Modern Devotion.

B) Cappella Pratensis – Christmas concert ‘O Magnum Mysterium’ with beautiful works form the great musical culture of the province of Brabant and the Dutch city of ‘s-Hertogenbosch.
A programme which reflects the great ‘Brabantse’ and ‘Bossche’ musical culture from the glorious past of the Duchy and the last half of the last century. The Christmas concert is characterized by two memorable events, which carry a very strong Brabants’ and mostly Bosch’ character: the 700 year existence of the Illustrious Brotherhood of Our Blessed Lady from 1318 AD and the 90th birthday of Maurice Pirenne (1928 – 2008). With the Brotherhood, founded in 1318 AD, Maria was often invoked and honoured in the Vespers and celebrations of praise. There are works by Pipelaere, choir master of Saint John’s Cathedral in 1499 AD, just like Pirenne five centuries later. There are also compositions by Clemens non Papa for the Brotherhood and by Jacob Obrecht, who worked in the Dutch city of Bergen op Zoom for years. Maurice Pirenne, priest, composer and organist is honoured by the performance of a number of choral pieces and some organ works.
