Concertzender Live’s two-hour programme is yet again filled with chamber music. To start the episode off, we’ll listen to the little-known, yet fascinating French composer Lili Boulanger. In her short life – she was only 25 when she died – she was a child prodigy, student of her sister Nadia and student of Fauré and famous composer. She called her thirteen songs from 1915 Clairières, or sunny spells, performed by soprano Jenny Stafford and accompanied by Somi Kim. These are supposed to be performed with a sentiment that speak of a positive past. Lili Boulanger felt an early end coming. The Firgun Ensemble from Brussels is at centre stage in the second part of the programme. These young Belgians love to mix it up. They play the beautiful clarinet quintet by Mozart, but they also play music by Glazoenov and Bernard Herrmann, who is most famous for his work in Alfred Hitchcock’s movies. By way of an encore, you’ll listen to Sous les ciels de Paris, in which you’ll miss the voice of Juliette Greco.
