Concertzender Live

Compiled by our Classical Music desk.

Our loyal listeners will know by now: there was a concert series in Den Haag in 1989 and 1990 called ‘de Verkenning’ Today we share pieces for the third and final time in this series.

‘De Verkenning’s’ main focus was New Music which had defined the world for the past century. Works from different countries, with different temperaments and artistic intentions. Experimental music, old-fashioned music and everything in between.

Today we focus on the post-war period. The first concert gives us music from the fifties. Where old composer prefer to go back to the thirties, the new generation takes a completely different approach. They feel a need to break with the past. In this concert, their music sounds brotherly side by side. We also feature the sixties. the avant-garde remains, where the character changes. Composers no longer rely on their mathematical systems, but follow their intuition more. We close off in the eighties, where postmodernism reigned. The avant-garde has succumbed to an anything-goes mentality: whatever the composer chooses is accepted, even returning to older music styles. The newest piece on our programme is barely four years old.
