Hans Werner Henze.

Today Hans Werner would have been 94 years of age. This composer was overshadow by others for a long time. His music wasn’t modern enough for the avant-garde, and not accessible enough for the minimalists. He composed largely atonal, but always melodic music with often a romantic character, in the spirit of Berg and Hartmann. In that way he was ahead of the new German school round Wolfgang Rihm.
