Ngarra-Burria is a development program in Australia for musicians of Aboriginal descent, now commonly referred to as First Peoples.
Ngarra-Burria means “listen – sing”. The program was initiated by the Dharug composer Chris Sainsbury. Ensemble Offspring has now recorded several dozen pieces for the first time. Compared to their counterparts in areas such as visual arts, film, theater, and dance, Aboriginal composers are underrepresented in Australia. Each composer brings the stories of their own land and people to their music.
