The Album 2 of the French-Algerian guitar player Pierre Bensusan.
The album “2” of the French-Algerian guitarre player Pierre Bensusan is not a forgotten or a dusty old piece of work. It is most definitely appreciated and it is seen as a break-through in folk and acoustic guitar music. So without a doubt it is a masterpiece.“2” had been the following number of his Près de Paris, which he had recorded at the age of seventeen. Before that, the teenager toured as a mandoline player with the banjo virtuoso Bill Keith through Europe. Keith was one of the first, who encouraged the young man to focus more on the guitar. Before he was twenty, Bensusan had already concurred the stage with his virtuoso and captivating play. Initially, with a mix of Celtic music, connected to French traditions and own work. He refined the so-called DAGDAG tuning, an open tuning for guitar which has become a standard in the accompaniment of the mostly Celtic folk music. After some time, Bensusan has evolved more and more towards jazz and improvised music. His music was categorized to new acoustic guitar style. He had recorded a live album together with the saxophone player Didier Malherbe. Bensusan developed and released teaching methods and all of his numbers are available on score.
