The album Boked Eured by the Breton formation Ogham from 1977.
A literal smash in this episode of Disc-Cover. And a real forgotten moulded masterpiece is Boked eured by the Breton formation Ogham. This never rereleased album was recorded by the brothers Ronan and Padrig Sicard and the four brothers Molard: Jacky, Padrig, Dominique and Claude in 1977. It was one of the first releases on the own label of Alan Stivell. The album contains a selection of instrumental melodies from Ireland, Scotland and, obviously, Brittany. At the time unorthodox with combinations of instruments which were never used before. Later on multi-instrumentalist Padrig Sicard played with Mara and Llew Kiek in the formation Crossroads but is especially famous for his pioneering work in the tuition methodology for the bombarde, the Breton shawm.
Dominique Molard
Dominique Molard studied European and exotic percussion instruments and put together his own percussion set which includes a role for the darbuka and tabla. He is one of the most inventive percussion players within roots music. Padrig Molard is the authority on the bagpipe in Brittany. He plays the (Scottish) highland pipe, the Irish Uilleann pipe and the Breton binniou-koz. He was part of all large and well-known Breton formations. That also applies to his brother Jacky. Perhaps the most refined Breton musician. No style is unknown to him. Next to the traditional fest noz music he just as easily plays contemporary folk (rock) and combines Breton music for example with Balkans and African traditions.
It is especially the current position and the role of named musicians which make their first recordings – and what turned out to be the only album of Ogham – so unique and a real collector’s item.
