# 186. Independent sound art, radiophonic projects and other audio non-visual misunderstandings and findings. BJ Snowden special.
In December of 2016, American Outsider musician BJ Snowden visited Rotterdam, to do a week’s residency by invitation of the ‘Ver Uit De Maat’ festival, during which she was interviewed by Niek Hilkmann and Lukas Simonis, had an exiting boat ride and recorded some of her old and new songs at the Worm/Klangendum studio, including the famous ‘In Canada’, the only song in which the gents Hilkmann and Simonis can be heard as well. We have come to know BJ as a funny, compassionate and entertaining woman. She partly became famous thanks to fans like Fred Schneider, singer of the B 52’s, and an article in the outsiders bible ‘In The Key Of Z’ of Irwin Chusid. Unlike many other outsiders, her music doesn’t strike a pathological note. Her work is more a subjective-realistic version of her day to day existence, kind of like a musical diary, filled with her passionate normal personality.
