ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
1. Ferrageau
In February 2015, Cor Gout visited Jacques Ferrageau in Rijswijk. When asked about the origin of his name and its connection with France, Jacques told him about his family’s history dating back to 1805, when a chirurgeon in Napoleon’s army arrived with its troops in Nijmegen, via Middelburg and The Haque.
Gout turned Jacques’ story into an epical poem, which was meant to serve as the text for a classical music piece of pianist René Rakier. The latter wrote a score, but an arrangement for piano and vocals was never established.
In 2019, Cor Gout and Lukas Simonis discussed if more contemporary music could be written for his poem and if it could be recorded. Simonis was attracted to the idea and he proposed to include Frans Friederich in the project. Gout recited the text in Simonis’ home-studio, while Simonis and Friederich recorded the soundtrack in the WORM studio. This resulted in a piece with an ambient feel and concrete elements and sound effects, which lent itself extremely well for a radio play.
