Conductor, composer and pianist Duke Ellington (1899-1974) part 114.
In the programme DUKE ELLINGTON a key role for “At the Ball Masque”, it includes 12 recordings of March 1958. Apart from “Satin Doll” they are all songs from different composers with “meaningful” titles, which were performed with a great deal of humor by the orchestra playing in top form. Billy Strayhorn was responsible for most of the arrangements, but Ellington‘s piano was very present everywhere.
