Conductor, composer and pianist Duke Ellington (1899-1974)
In this programme about DUKE ELLINGTON, you will hear a first selection of pieces which were recorded for the ‘World Broadcasting Series’ between November 1943 and August 1945. The recordings were made during the recording-ban, which was effective from 1 August 1942 until 11 November 1944. Only recordings for radio broadcasts were allowed. These unique recordings were only released on LP in the early 80s and, later, remastered on CD.
