This is the second time Electronic Frequencies has devoted an entire episode to the work of British-born Mark van Hoen (b. 1966).
He has a broad and extensive body of work. These days he is more prolific than ever, regularly releasing new work both online and on vinyl. This presentation, for example, includes tracks from the recently released EP Electric Lights (2024). This hour concludes with Murderer, Dreamer (1998) featuring a starring role for renowned guitarist Robert Fripp.
In most of his music Van Hoen plays on rich textures, developing the music not by building up, but by morphing slightly, deepening in atmosphere, unsettling or soothing the listener. The result is often beautifully produced while at the same time maintaining a lo-fi grittyness.
Judge for yourself. And if you like it, you can listen to another hour of Mark van Hoen in April 2018’s edition of Electronic Frequencies: https://bit.ly/vanhoen
