About eight years ago, on 29 September 2007, Fungus with Kaap’ren varen opened the very first Folk it! broadcast by programme maker Marius Roeting. With this episode, we have landed at the hundredth episode. In the in-between episodes a lot has changed about and in the programme. Today a review!
For example, the first few broadcasts had a particular format that was carried out by all programme makers. There was also a lot of focus on products from our own country: from private releases to demos and concerts. In the course of time, things have been changed, were added, and disappeared again. The item ‘de vergelijking’ (‘the comparison’), for example, in which we present to you one song in two different variations, still slumbers. As early as episode one it became evident that surprisingly this wasn’t new: it already existed but was then called ‘opgepoetst’ (‘refurbished’). The mini special, a permanent part of the programme, became a full special more and more frequently over the years. A CD release was proposed. Or a theme, like the commemoration of the fall of the Berlin wall 25 years earlier. Mini-series like ‘rocky folk and folky pop’broadcasts arose in which folksongs were performed by rock musicians and popsongs by folkies. By now, we are preparing for an eleventh edition. Or the musician specials ‘the songs of…’ in which we played covers of compositions by certain singer-songwriters. But also (record)label specials, female voices in folk, the song of freedom, early (baroque and renaissance) music, or rather, contemporary expressions such as hiphop, rap or metal fused with folk, specials with songs about the seasons, etc., etc. And we haven’t even mentione the ‘regular’ Folk It!’s yet…
For once, we will look back. Not in a nostalgic but in a historical sense.
