Folk magazine about the present and the past, from freak folk to minstrels. Tonight, this programme is completely devoted to Greek music. We start of with Hasjkeet of the predominantly Belgian ‘Kosmokrators & Agathonas’. On their new CD ‘Frenetika’ zrembetiko songs are heard in Greek, French, English and Dutch. The title of their song ‘Hasjkeet’ clarifies in what surrounding the rembetiko came to be, in the 30’s. The next song (Psefti Dounia) is from the album ‘Kolonaki Tsitsifies’ and named after a rich and poor neighbourhood in Athens. Though the rembetiko started out from something for the poor, mainly men, it’s now for everybody. Apart from the original rembetiko, there’s also the more developed archondorembetiko, in which more strings and piano can be heard. This programme is mainly about the recent rembetiko’s, but also includes some pieces in het style from the island of Crete.
