Genre: Afrobeat

“Mariama”, a programme with African music.

LP recordings from Nigeria and Congo by Alhadji Haruna Ishola & His Apala Group, which consisted of 12 people. Apala is a genre of music from the Yoruba in Nigeria, developed since the late 30s. Instruments used in Apala are Shekere, bell (agogo), thumb piano, and a number of talking drums. Alhadji Haruna Ishola worked hard to make Apala more popular (which is son is currently doing in Nigeria, with great success).

Furthermore, unalloyed Congolese Rhumba with Celi Bittsu and Maître Dizzy Mandjèkou. The latter played in Les Grands Maquisars, Afrisa International by Tabu Ley, and in the African All Stars. Finally, Juju with Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey and his Inter-Reformers Band. Ebenezer Obey made his first recording in 1964. We now play a record side from 1978 by this very productive musician.
