Mariama, a programme with African music: Tuareg desert blues
Kel Assouf Toumast
During the nineties, the popularity of the Ishumar music, the Tuareg rebels who fight for independence in their area, moved into other countries in Africa and Europe. The Tinariwen group gained a lot of fame and more and more Tuareg musicians became inspired by this music.
Most of them were fugitives who had fought against the regimes of Mali and Niger. Many of them had to flee when things got too hot for them and crossed the border, some of them going to Europe.
Mariama takes you to the Mali and Niger deserts where you are introduced to the Tuareg desert blues of Koudede , Toumast and Kel Assouf.
